Polar Cup A Great Success!

(February 8, 2010 - Lakefield, ON) The 4-on-4 Polar Cup Hockey Tournament is all wrapped up! On Saturday, 12 teams competed in two divisions for the Polar Cup.  The weather was sunny, the beers flowed and the hot dogs grilled at the fourth annual Polar Cup in Lakefield at the Ontario Speed Skating Oval.

The “Mason K” Team took home the ultimate prize including the Polar Cup Trophy, team metals and extra prizes.  Team members included Mason Kalus, Tyler Talsma, Jordan Bedwell, Ryan Herlihey, Sean Griffin and Blake Evans.

At the tournament, teams consisted of 4 to 6 players and played a minimum of 3 games. All registered players were automatically entered into a draw to win a pair of box seats tickets on Senators home ice in Ottawa. The winner of the tickets was Tyler Gal of the “Original Six.” In addition, all players received a player’s gym bag, compliments of The Pepsi Bottling Group.

Food was provided by Reggie’s Hot Grill and a Beer Igloo was hosted by the Historic Red Dog.

All proceeds raised at the Polar Cup support the new OSSO facility that will be one of only four long speed skating tracks in Canada, and Ontario’s first 400m outdoor temperature-controlled speed skating oval.

Once built, the OSSO will help foster sport development, build a healthy community and will generate over $14 million in annual tourism spending.  Central to its design is the geothermal ice creation system which will be the foundation for developing a sustainable community.
