Walk of Champions (Brick Campaign)
The Walk of Champions will be the primary entrance to the Oval through the adjoining Oval Building. The Walk of Champions will combine a broad walkway built using paving stones with a wall of bricks along the side separating the walkway from the actual skating track.
The Walk of Champions will be a place to honour three different groups that have all played an important role in building speed skating in Ontario. First will be those individuals and companies who want to help build the oval by purchasing a brick on the Walk of Champions. The second group will be the athletes, coaches and club officials who participated in speed skating in Ontario and who wish to have their involvement recognized. Finally the Walk of Champions will include stones on the walkway to recognize those Canadian speed skaters, coaches or officials who have represented Canada in International competition.
Standard Bricks will be purchased for an individual or corporate donation of $200.00. These bricks will form the wall adjoining the track. The individual or company name will be engraved on the brick which will then become a permanent part of the Oval.
Ontario Bricks will be purchased by athletes, coaches or club officials, their families or by sponsors through a donation of $300.00. Ontario Bricks will have a distinctive size and colour and will be engraved with the participant’s name along with the years that they were involved in speed skating. Ontario Bricks will also recognize the individual or company that sponsored the brick. Ontario Bricks will be added to the Walk of Champions after the Oval is completed.
Canada Bricks will be purchased by the athletes, coaches or club officials, their family or by sponsor through a donation of $1,000.00. Canada Bricks will have a distinctive size, shape and colour and will be engraved with the participant’s name and a brief review of their accomplishments in speed skating. Canada Bricks will also recognize the individual or company that sponsored the brick. When ever possible the Canada Bricks will be unveiled or placed with a ceremony with both the participant and the sponsor in attendance. Canada Bricks will be added to the Walk of Champions after the Oval is completed.
A register of all the bricks will be kept and displayed in an area along the Founder’s Wall in the Oval Facility. A map will allow visitors and donors to locate individual bricks along the Walk of Champions. All those who donate to help build the Walk of Champions will receive a tax receipt for a charitable donation.
